Oldevatn Camping
Pictures of Loen and Olden has been all over Instagram and for good reasons. Every where you turn you will see beautiful nature. A blue river, white snow on the mountain tops, a boat on the water. I am sure you have all seen it. Our first camping trip with the caravan went to Oldevatn Camping. It is located in Olden, in Nordfjord about 2,5 hours drive from our home. The drive is a little bit long for just a weekend, but totally worth it. The distance from our home to the campingsite is 143 kilometers. We can easily to the drive without having to charge the EV. The camping site has two super chargers installed and offer charging at a low price to all EV. If the kids want to stop for an ice cream during the drive, we will choose Volda where I can plug my EV to one of the Tesla Superchargers.
If I were to drive from Oslo to Oldevatn with my setup – a Tesla Model X and Adria 613 PK I would estimate to charge two times (Chris – fyll inn her). I would recommend stopping at x and x…
There are several camping sites located in this area, for example Oldevatn Gytri and Nesset Fjordcamping. We chose Oldevatn camping; mostly because of the playground which is ideal for the kids. But after staying there one weekend we keep coming back, not only for the playground but the whole package. The camping site is located by the river, and the blue color is mesmerizing! It turns more and more blue during the summertime because of the minerals from the glaze melting into it. It is also a very welcoming camping site with nice employees and a lot of activities for the whole family.
The drive to get there is kind of scary though – through narrow roads where you have to back if you meet traffic (like a car.. or a tractor). And if you meet a big caravan you will have to back up quite a lot and hold your breath hoping it will go ok. But when you get past this and arrive the camping it is all worth the trouble.
Imagine waking up to this view outside your caravan-window!

Playground
Since we have two small kids we always look for a camping site with playground. A nice playground gives us the possibility to enjoy a cup of coffee. The playground in Oldevatn is a quite new and a lot of fun for the kids. It has climbing rocs, zip line, and some woodn play cars just to mention some. The smaller playground has a trampoline and jumping ground.
The camping site also has a nice little rocky beach by the water where you can find SUP, rowboar, pedalo and canoes free of use. In different camping sites we have visited this kind of activities are usually charged by the hour and only by booking. In Oldevatn the atmosphere is quiet and easy, the rowboats and canoes are laying next to each other and can be used whenever the guests wants and as long as they are not in use. People wait their turn and if there are many guests you just make sure your trip is a little bit shorter so the next in line can try. I like it! And the kids love it!
And the pictures. I mean, look at this. It is as stunning in reality as it looks in the picture. I understand why all the instagrammers went here in 2021 when the pandemic made everyone do holidays in our own country.
The newest edition to this part og the camping site is a watertrampoline. You have to either swim or row to the watertrampoline and climb on board. Our girls liked it a lot, but when we asked if they wanted to jump from the trampoline out into the water they found it best not to.
If you go over the road to the playground and through a tiny forest you will enter a tiny beach. The water is cold, like 6 degrees cold, but in a warm summer day it is actually kind of refreshing. Tiril and SolveigLykke likes to play with buckets in the sand, while Chris loves to take a swim in the cold water.
There are also several nice hikes you can walk from the camping site – we have not been able to get around to that yet, so that gives us a very good reason to go back this summer – not that we need any. This pictures speaks for itself!
If you enjoy beautiful nature, if you have kids who like to play this is the place to be. If you are a true viking you can relax in the beautiful river holding about 6 degrees. I have heard it is supposed to do miracles to your health.
